Standing with families in Nepal after the mudslide
On 26 August 2026 a glacier collapse on the Nepal–Tibet border sent ice, rock and mud through the valleys below. Oasis teams have visited families who lost homes and loved ones. We are asking churches across the UK to pray, to give, and to stand with them.

The disaster
What happened
On 26 August 2026 a glacier collapsed high on the border between Nepal and Tibet. The avalanche of ice and rock became a torrent of mud that swept down the Bhote Koshi valley, carrying away homes, roads and bridges.
Whole communities in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading districts were cut off. Within days, UN News was reporting at least 93,000 people affected and 18 schools destroyed. Many families are now sheltering in holding centres, and thousands are still waiting for news of relatives.

“We visited families in the holding centres and listened to their grief. We saw how local churches are caring for their neighbours — and, in the middle of suffering, we saw the hope that God gives.”

The Church’s place
Where the Church stands when disaster strikes
Relief agencies come and go; the local church stays. So we serve alongside local churches and like-minded partners, not on our own.
The local church is already there
Churches in Nepal were caring for their neighbours before outside help arrived, and they will still be there when the headlines move on.
Help that is practical
Shelter, food and someone who will listen come first. We work with like-minded organisations and individuals so that help reaches the families who need it.
Hope that lasts
We serve in the name of Christ. Alongside practical help we bring comfort, prayer and the hope of the gospel.
